A full ornate compass rose fills the canvas in vintage cartographic illustration style. The sixteen-point rose shows all cardinal and intercardinal directions, the north point topped with a traditional fleur-de-lis finial in deep ochre. The compass lines radiate from the central jewel point outward to the edge of the circle. The parchment ground is warm sepia-aged cream, the ink lines a deep brown-black. Decorative hatching and fine line detail fill the compass point shapes. The letters N, S, E, W appear in copperplate serif type at the four main points. Faint aged foxing marks suggest a document of genuine vintage.
