Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

Heva Unique Art Gallery is committed to ensuring that hevauniqueart.com is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We actively work to increase the accessibility and usability of this website and to conform to applicable accessibility standards.

We believe that all visitors — regardless of ability — deserve a seamless, dignified experience when browsing and purchasing artwork.

Conformance Status

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines helps make the web more user friendly for all people.

WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the UK Equality Act 2010, the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and Canada's Accessible Canada Act.

Current status: We aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and are continuously improving our accessibility.

Accessibility Measures Implemented

We have taken the following technical steps to support accessibility across this website:

Keyboard & Navigation

  • Skip to main content link — visible on keyboard focus, allowing users to bypass repeated navigation on every page.
  • Full keyboard navigability — all interactive elements (buttons, links, forms, dropdowns, carousels) are operable via keyboard alone.
  • Arrow-key navigation in sort and filter dropdowns, conforming to the ARIA Authoring Practices listbox pattern.
  • Visible focus indicators — all focusable elements display a clear gold focus ring on keyboard interaction using focus-visible.

Dialogs & Modals

  • Focus trapping — when a modal or dialog is open (cart, size guide, quick view, offers popup, search), keyboard focus is contained within the dialog. Pressing Escape closes the dialog.
  • Focus restoration — when any dialog is dismissed, keyboard focus returns to the element that triggered it.
  • All dialogs use role="dialog", aria-modal="true", and aria-labelledby pointing to the dialog's visible heading.

Forms

  • All form inputs have programmatically associated <label> elements.
  • Required fields are marked with aria-required="true" and a visible asterisk.
  • Inline error messages are linked to their inputs via aria-describedby and use role="alert" so screen readers announce them immediately.
  • Invalid inputs are flagged with aria-invalid="true" and a red border.
  • Submit buttons use aria-busy="true" during loading states.

Dynamic Content & Live Regions

  • Search results — result count is announced via an off-screen aria-live="polite" region when results load or change.
  • Announcement bar — rotating promotions are announced to screen readers when they change. The countdown timer is excluded from the live region to avoid per-second interruptions.
  • Newsletter & form submission status — success, error, and loading states are announced via live regions.

Semantic Structure

  • All pages use a logical heading hierarchy (h1h2h3) so screen reader users can efficiently navigate by heading.
  • Landmark regions are used throughout: <header>, <nav>, <main>, <footer>, and <section> with accessible labels.
  • Navigation landmarks carry descriptive aria-label attributes (e.g. “Main navigation”, “Admin navigation”).
  • The active page in navigation menus is indicated with aria-current="page".
  • Icon-only buttons carry descriptive aria-label text. Purely decorative icons use aria-hidden="true".
  • All product images have descriptive alt attributes.
  • Data tables (size guides) use <thead>, <th scope="col">, and <td> elements.

Visual Design & Motion

  • Colour contrast — all text on dark backgrounds meets or exceeds the WCAG AA minimum ratio of 4.5:1. Primary brand colours: gold (#C9A96E) on black (#0A0A0A) achieves 8.8:1; on charcoal (#1A1A1A) achieves 7.3:1.
  • Reduced motion — a prefers-reduced-motion: reduce CSS media query disables all transitions and animations for users who have opted out of motion in their operating system settings.
  • Text is resizable up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • Interactive components are sized to a minimum of 44×44 CSS pixels to meet touch target guidelines (WCAG 2.5.5).

Language & Document

  • The page language is declared as English via lang="en" on the root <html> element.
  • Each page has a unique, descriptive <title> element.

Supported Technologies

This website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • NVDA + Google Chrome (Windows)
  • JAWS + Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (Windows)
  • VoiceOver + Safari (macOS / iOS)
  • TalkBack + Chrome (Android)
  • Keyboard-only navigation (all browsers)
  • Browser zoom up to 200%
  • Windows High Contrast mode

We recommend using the latest versions of browsers and assistive technologies for the best experience.

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some areas of this website may not yet be fully accessible. We are actively working to resolve the following:

  • Stripe payment form — the secure payment element is rendered inside an iframe by Stripe, Inc. We have verified that Stripe maintains its own accessibility programme; however, we cannot fully control the accessibility of third-party embedded content.
  • Complex image descriptions — some artwork images carry brief alt text describing the title and style. We are working to provide more detailed descriptions for screen reader users on request.

If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please let us know using the contact details below.
